Woodford Primary School
Woodford Primary School is part of a major redevelopment of the former BAE systems site in Woodford. Stockport Council gave planning permission for the new primary school which will form part of the new Woodford Garden Village development. Plans were previously lodged to extend the village by a further 500 homes, making the primary school even more important for the local community, which initially had 600 homes built on the site.
Stockport has been facing a housing shortage for some time and the extension of Woodford Garden Village will include a significant portion of what have been classed as affordable housing. These will be a mix of family housing, senior living and there will be some self-build plots.
Other amenities as part of the village include a retirement and care facility, a pub and an extensive network of green spaces including parks and children’s play areas. This major development is the first garden village of its kind to be built in the north of England for decades.
Woodford Primary School will initially provide 30 Reception places with a further Reception class added each academic year. The school will also be home to a 20-place nursery. It will be located in the heart of the Woodford Garden Village community, and it will be an inclusive, non-selective, non-denominational one form entry school, where all pupils can thrive. The Laurus Trust is the sponsor for the school and it will be working closely with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, the Department for Education, and Conlon Construction, who are the main contractor for the project. They asked for Easi-Edge to deliver 360 LM of edge protection barriers to secure the site.
The school will include eight classrooms, plus areas for outdoor play including both hard and soft landscaped playgrounds. There will also be a school library, specialist teaching areas and a school hall.
