Greenwell Academy is a new purpose-built special school in Harlow, designed to support children aged 7–16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Once complete, the academy will offer 64 day places and 15 residential places, with approximately 30 members of staff. The new academy will be operated by The Beckmead Trust, which works in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE) and councils across London and the south-east of England.

The Greenwell Academy development reflects a significant investment in specialist education provision for the local community and funding for it was secured from the DfE and Central Government.

Easi-Edge were asked to provide a comprehensive safety solution to protect workers on-site throughout the construction process of the new academy. Installation of Easi-Edge equipment can only be carried out by trained operatives, and on the first day at Greenwall, a dedicated and experienced field engineer delivered an on-site toolbox talk.

This training is customised for the individual edge protection requirements of the site and it is tailored to suit each project. The training covers the correct barrier installation, safe use of components, and best-practice procedures for maintaining protection as construction progresses. Once the training is completed, the on-site team will be provided with a copy of the site drawings and relevant information so that they are qualified to install and move the edge protection as requirements change.

After the initial training, our field engineers will visit the site every 4-6 weeks to ensure the edge protection has been installed and is being properly maintained. This process will continued until all of the edge protection barriers have been removed when they are no longer required. Easi-Edge provides this important safety aspect to every single site, regardless of size of location. For the Greenwell Academy project, Easi-Edge provided over 850 LM of edge protection barriers.

Greg Guppy, Director at Easi-Edge said, “Temporary edge protection is vital on any construction site, particularly where new levels, access routes and interfaces are continually being created on a developing project. Our toolbox talk and ongoing site-visit support give contractors the knowledge and confidence to maintain safe working areas from start to finish.”
