Scotway House, located on the north bank of the Clyde and the historic site of the former Meadowside Shipyard Office, will provide accommodation for over 400 students. In addition, the development will also include restaurants, a library and study rooms.

The footprint of the new building will partially be on the site of the old dock which historically built more than 30 anchor line ships. Piles were installed within the centre of the dock and behind the existing dock walls to allow a transfer slab to be cast across the existing dock walls to reduce the risk of piles being obstructed.

The 14 storey tower will provide modern accommodation for new students, which when combined with an additional six-storey building, will create 435 residential rooms. A third, three storey building on the site is dedicated to study and social areas. Other features of the project include a roof terrace, outdoor spaces, a gym, a cinema and karaoke room, and study booths, all of which is designed to create a community space.

Originally, a concrete frame solution was the preferred option for the new tower block. However, an alternative steel frame solution was proposed which is expected to reduce the process by eight weeks and mitigate risks associated with the inclement Scottish weather which would slow down the concrete curing process. In addition, the original stone rainscreen cladding was changed to an alternative dryvit cladding solution of equal quality.

As part of the student accommodation all of the bedrooms were designed with large windows to maximise natural day-lighting into the rooms and minimise the use of artificial lighting.

During the construction of this project, Easi-Edge supplied 2650LM of edge protection barriers to the site. The £40 million project is a significant investment for the city and it brought more than 300 jobs to Glasgow, and during the construction process it also employed a number of local companies.
