Kenilworth School and Sixth Form
Kenilworth School and Sixth Form is being built on vacant land, and once completed it will be one of the largest schools in the UK. The campus will have a capacity for 2,200 pupils and it will replace three existing schools within the local community.
The £44m development will be delivered on behalf of the Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust, which is working in partnership with Warwick District Council. The main contractor on the project is Morgan Sindall Construction and they asked Easi-Edge to supply 2900 LM of edge protection barriers to the site.
By combining all of the schools onto one site, it will support the school’s ambition to improve efficiency, as well as reduce costs and carbon emissions. Previously, staff were moving between sites during the day which impacted the service they could to pupils. The new combined Kenilworth school covers 36 acres and in addition to the main school building, it also includes outdoor play areas with floodlit all-weather pitches, natural grass pitches and hard courts.
Within the main building there is a grab and go option for dining, halls and theatre. There are also community sports facilities and changing areas, as well as a special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) suite. Sustainability features at the school include solar panels on the roofs and electric vehicle charging points. Wild plant areas and natural habitats with native hedges and trees will be introduced, as well as an orchard.
Local sports clubs in the community will be able to use the sports and leisure facilities, plus groups can hire the theatre hall and other facilities at the school. This enormous landmark project, with state of the art teaching facilities, will have a significant impact on pupils in the area, but it will also be of great benefit to the wider community.
