Construction of the structural timber framed building is well under way at the University of Essex’s Colchester campus, comprising three storeys and several domed roofs where easi-edge is supplying their edge protection system to the building that will house the Essex Business School. The project has a planned completion date of May 2014 and will provide academic staff and students with a modern, eco friendly learning environment.Supplying in excess of 1,700 linear metres of their highly visible orange barriers, the easi-edge team worked closely with the structural timber subcontractor to ensure their edge protection functioned seamlessly with the curved building design. Demonstrating their detailing expertise, the easi-edge technical team were able to highlight potential problem areas and offer the correct fixing solution before being delivered to site in phases to suit the construction programme. The timber-framed and clad building is curved to exploit natural day lighting and ventilation, the domed roofs are to be covered in solar panels and all materials used within the construction process have been sustainably sourced with a view to achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating.
