Ark Blake Academy

Ark Blake Academy is a new £25 million secondary school in Croydon that will be constructed on a former brownfield site in London. The new school is part of a multi-academy trust which has over 37 schools in the UK. Wates Construction were the main contractor for this project and the new school would be a purpose designed five story building. Existing buildings on the site had previously been demolished before any new work began on the academy.

The design of the new secondary school features classrooms around the perimeter on each level, with space in the centre of the building for an internal sports hall. Due to the confines of the site, an outdoor multi-use games area pitch will be created on the roof of the building. During construction Easi-Edge provided 920LM of edge protection barriers on this project.

The new school will provide spaces for 1,200 students including 300 sixth form students. The building will provide 9,170 square metres of classroom space over the 5 floors. Ark Blake Academy will provide opportunities for pupils in the area to receive the best education once completed. During the construction phase, a number of local electrical installation students were invited to the site by Wates Construction. Through theory lessons and practical workshops the students were able to expand their knowledge and put their practical skills into action with some hands on experience.
