St John Fisher Catholic High School
The new St John Fisher Catholic School will be situated at the top of hill between Chatham and Rochester, with inspiring views looking out across the River Medway. To make way for the new school, Wates Construction is demolishing the existing school, which consists of four buildings, all of which are all in need of replacement.
The new school will include a number of modern facilities including Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGA) pitches, state-of the-art computer labs, a library, specialist sixth form facilities, a kiln room and an architecturally designed chapel with stained glass surround. These facilities will be shared with the community outside of school hours.
While the new school is being constructed Wates will install a modular temporary school for the 1,050 existing pupils. Once the pupils are installed at this site, adjacent to the current school, demolition work will begin of the old buildings. In their place will be an 84,000 square foot facilities over three storeys, as well as a sports block. During the construction phase, to protect site workers, Easi-Edge are supplying over 900LM of double height edge protection barriers.
The new school is designed by Sheppard Robson and it will be net zero carbon. One aspect of its energy-efficient design is a bio-solar roof with PV panels to generate energy. Other features included to improve its sustainability are air source heat pumps and low flow taps and showers to reduce water usage. Wates have also committed to maximising the usage modern methods of construction wherever possible to reduce its carbon footprint during the project.
The new St John Fisher Catholic School will create a fantastic learning environment and provide modern facilities for students, staff and the local community.
