Arden Gate is a new development in Birmingham which comprise of 225 luxury apartments on a 1.35 acre site. Centrally located, only a short walk from Birmingham New Street train station, tenants are close to businesses, entertainment and shopping in the city.

The main contract for the 225 luxury apartments over 15 storeys with communal areas and parking was awarded to the Torsion Group. The building comprises of 151 one bedroom apartments and 74 two bedroom apartments, plus six duplex apartments. A limited number of apartments come with a private garden and a selection are fitted with balconies to enjoy views of the surrounding neighbourhood. The development also includes electric vehicle charging points and secure bike sheds.

The design of the Arden Gate ranges in height, from 5 storeys on William Street to 7 storeys on Communication Row, and it contains a split level open sided terrace that is facing south. As the building is being created on multiple levels, it required a large amount of edge protection barriers. Easi-Edge supplied 715 LM of top up panels to the roof areas during construction on this project.

Leeds-based Torsion Group will work on the design by Architects Corstorphine and Wright for the apartment complex. By utilising the principles of BIM, the Torsion Group were able to provide a fully co-ordinated solution by using 3D modelling and printing.

This gave the client a design that was robust, affordable and ready to construct. The value engineering review challenged the concept design in terms of frame, façade material and engineering services. By adopting this design they were able to reduce the contract sum by £2.5 million and secure the contract.

Arden Gate will deliver high value accommodation to the heart of Birmingham to meet the growth in demand.
