Bridgestone Construction were awarded the main contractor for developer ForLiving’s new apartment scheme in Ordsall Lane in Salford. Dock 5 will be delivered by ForViva’s housing arm, ForHousing, with Bridgestone Construction as the main contractor and Falconer Chester Hall as the architect.

The development is one of the largest in the north west for private rentals. It will comprise of 389 apartments across an eight-storey block on a 2.8 acre site on Ordsall Lane and Fairbrother Street, close to MediaCityUK. The apartments will be a mix of studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments plus 6 duplex apartments.

In addition to the apartments the site will have a number of facilities for residents including a waterfront lounge, cinema rooms and gym. The development also has 3,272 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor, which is intended for a variety of uses including shops, bars and restaurants and offices.

There will also be 96 spaces for cars and storage for 188 cycle on the lower ground floor for residents. Its location has been chosen to provide residents with a comfortable living space that is also ideal for commuters, as well as young professionals and families in the city.

One of the main challenges on this project was the management of site logistics in a relatively small construction area that was also adjacent to a densely residential community. Regular meetings and collaboration between all the stakeholders minimised disruption in spite of the limited space. Easi-Edge provided 6898 LM of edge protection on the site, which protected site workers and also the general public.

Ordsall Lane, Dock 5 was the first of the regeneration projects in the area and it set a high benchmark of what was expected for this previously neglected area of the city.
