Edge Protection – South Trafford Health and Wellbeing Centre
The new South Trafford Health and Wellbeing Centre is being built on the site of the former Altrincham General Hospital as part of a major hospital regeneration scheme. Bowmer and Kirkland was awarded the multi-million pound contract for the new healthcare facility. The 88,000 square foot hub will include a four storey clinical development, as well as a new library, tourist information centre, and will deliver a mix of community services and therapies. There will also be a pharmacy, clinical suites and training areas, a minor surgery suite, and retail spaces including a café.
The project was created by developer Citybranch in collaboration with NHS Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group and Trafford Council. During the construction of the new healthcare centre, Easi-Edge supplied 2,200 LM of edge protection barriers to the site.
The design of the new South Trafford Health and Wellbeing Centre incorporates elements of the original hospital façade, which date back to the 1870s, providing a link to the area’s history. The reconstructed façade and the site’s proximity to adjacent buildings and a bustling town centre were additional complexities on this project for the developer.
Part of the redevelopment of the local area will include pedestrianising one section of Pott Street, with a paved area with cafes and shops. A basement car park is also being included in the site to minimise the impact on the surrounding environment.
