As a major new redevelopment of the new Ageas Bowl complex in Southampton gets under way, one east midlands edge protection provider is hoping for a hat trick as they supply edge protection to a second County Cricket Club project in as many months.
Working in conjunction with new customer Denizen Contracts, falls from height experts, easi-edge, has supplied in the region of 3,000 linear metres of bolt-on edge protection to the Ageas Bowl redevelopment and the home of Hampshire Cricket.
Constantly protecting the workforce whilst work construction continues, the edge protection barriers have been installed to a structural steel frame which will house new facilities include a 175 bedroom Hilton hotel, along with the development of the exclusive hotel, bars, restaurants and a function room facing onto the pitch, a state-of-the-art media centre, a Spa and Leisure Club and a club-house for the new 18-hole golf course are also being constructed within the Ageas Bowl complex.
Challenging in its design, the easi-edge team worked closely with the project team at Denizen and steel fabricator, Morgans of Usk, to provide a tailored edge protection solution to the multi-million pound development.
Looking for a solution which would adapt to the design of the build and suit follow-on trades, Dean Lindeque, Senior Site Manager for Denizen commented “easi-edge designed and liaised with the structural steel sub contractor to ensure all angles were covered in the erection of the easi-edge.” He then went on to say “The end result is a neat and tidy site with full edge protection to the perimeter and intermediate leading edges. Our Client and CDM Co-ordinator were extremely happy with us in utilising the easi-edge system on site”
Once complete, the ground will become Britain’s only “Model Test Match venue” as defined by the England and Wales Cricket Board, with a capacity of 25,000. The Ageas Bowl is already set to host the 2014 Test between England and India and a One Day International between England and Australia in 2015, and is looking forward to more.
